What should you do if you or someone in your family needs to seek medical treatment?

First, you are strongly encouraged to call Global Excel before seeking medical treatment so that they can answer any questions you may have about your benefits and help you through the claims process.

There are many healthcare options to use when you or someone in your family is sick. Below you will find important information and a list of services that will be most helpful to you. 

For non-emergency situations, you should always visit the medical clinic on campus first during business hours, and they can provide a referral to a preferred provider if necessary. Please refer to the list of Direct Billing Clinics in Fredericton and Saint John for after-hours clinics that will bill your insurance directly.


Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Call 1-844-780-0732. Make sure to have your International Student Health Insurance certificate number with you.
  2. Explain your symptoms.
  3. Based on your symptoms, you may speak directly with a doctor who can:
  • Help you to manage your medical issue
  • Recommend treatment
  • Prescribe medication when appropriate
  • Refer you to an appropriate clinic or hospital that best suits your medical needs

  • Headache
  • Mild fever
  • Sore throat
  • Muscle aches and pains
  • Earache
  • Chronic medical conditions that require regular medical care and/or medication
  • Birth control prescriptions


Types of Emergency Situations Requiring an Emergency Visit to a Hospital

  • High fever
  • Severe chest pain
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Broken bones
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Extreme bleeding
  • Accidents

If you are hospitalized as an inpatient:

  • You must notify Global Excel Management within 48 hours of admission, whenever possible (see your policy for more information).
  • Direct payment will be arranged with all hospitals (no out-of-pocket payments).


If you are treated as an outpatient:

  • You are strongly encouraged to contact Global Excel for referral instructions and general claims assistance before seeking treatment.
  • Notify Global Excel if pre-approval is required for a particular benefit (refer to your policy). 
  • Global Excel can contact any medical facility outside the current network to request direct billing.
  • If you do have to pay for services rendered or for a medical prescription, a completed claim form must be sent to Global Excel along with original receipts.


General assistance from Global Excel:

When you call Global Excel, the staff can provide you with helpful information and will be able to assist you throughout your claim.

  • Benefit information: Explanation of the policy benefits, terms and conditions.
  • Case management: Monitoring of the services given in the event of an emergency, particularly if you are admitted to hospital, and guidance throughout your treatment.
  • Claims information: Global Excel will answer questions about the eligibility of your claim, the standard claim verification procedures and the way the policy benefits are administered.
